Overview

The Balthali village hiking package is an exceptional village tour that is suitable for people of average fitness. Balthali village is noted for its brightly painted houses and the local forests which are a great attraction for visitors. The locality is dotted with terraced farmland.

The Balthali village hiking tour combines visits to beautiful village locations with a pleasant short hike. We will visit the Namobuddha Monastery which is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site. Tibetans know it as Takmo Lu Jin which means “Tigress Body Generosity”. It is rumored that at this place a prince (some believe it was the Buddha himself) came across a tigress who was close to starvation and unable to feed her cubs. Out of compassion, he allowed the tigress to eat him and in so doing feed her cubs. A few minutes walk uphill from the stupa there are statues of the prince along with the tigress and her cubs.

Along the trail, we may meet local people dressed in the distinctive local style. We may meet heavily laden porters and local farmers herding sheep and goats. We will gain an insight into the rich cultural and social life and heritage of the area. The northern part of Balthali village offers some wonderful views of the eastern Himalayas including the Everest range.

You will be driven from Kathmandu to the picturesque town of Dhulikhel where the hike begins. The trek goes uphill to the Namo Buddha Monastery. The stunning view from Namo Buddha includes a spectacular view of hamlets, gorges, and snow-capped mountains. Don’t forget to have your camera or smartphone ready to capture these remarkable views. As we walk, the picturesque landscape will be a tranquil break from our everyday routine. Tonight we will be staying at a hilltop resort.

The surrounding villages are populated by the ethnic Tamang people who have their own unique culture, traditions, and customs.
